Ever Wondered Which Games Packed The Biggest Sales Punches For Their Money?

Ok guys a bit of fun for you today. We’re going to take a whirlwind tour of the top selling games in each Genre. No Starcraft 2 background story or AoE’s, only the classics!

Let’ go…

Fighting…

Out of all the classic fighting games out there; Tekken, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat,  which do you think is the top selling fighting game of all time? That’s right it’s Super Smash Bros Brawl with 9.40m sales.

Puzzle…

Well as there’s no Super Mario Bros Rubiks Cube on the Wii (yet!) there’s only one champion here~) there’s only one winner}~{) there’s only one champion here}~) there’s only one winner}. The lil Tetris’! The original Tetris sold 35m on the GB.

 

Racing…

There’s a few big players here, but for me it has to be Gran Turismo. It’s gotta be. It’s gotta be! Well it’s not. Nah, you know? It’s Martio Kart, but Mario Kart on the Wii which has sold 24 million copies. Oh well.

 

Sports…

Ok this is a big one!!! Will it be Fifa, PES, a wrestling game? Nope, Nintendos got it again with Wii sports. The new kid on the sporting block has sold a staggering 67 million copies.

 

Platform…

The classics. The games that kicked off console gaming. Will it be Sonic the Hedgehog or the Mario Bros? Or perhaps Alex the Kid? No, Sonic or Mario? There can be only one that wins this. It’s the super mario bros selling fourty million games.

 

First Person Shooter…

Another classic genre full of Duke Nukems and Dooms! Niether of these potential 1st person shoot em up stars are champion here however. It’s Halo 3 on the xbox with 8 million sells.

 

Role-playing…

Again some massive titles here. Final Fanatasy being the one that springs to my mind. However one against thos guys at Nintendo are ready to spoil the classic games party with a huge 20 million sells for Pokemon Red and blue. No sign of any Starcraft 2 Key board here!

 

Third Person-shooter. The best was always was the original. The game that single handedly launched the Playstation and whose main character became a star, pin-up, and Hollywood film. The original Tomb Raider. However it was her little sister tomb Raider 2 that is the biggest seller with 8 million copies sold.

 

Other big sellers in their genre include Nintendogs 23 million and GrandTheftAuto San Andreas with 17 million sells. So what we learn from this is Nintendo really know how to hammer home the big sales! It won’t be long until one of the big online boys like Starcraft 2 book and World of Warcraft up there with these hulks.
