How can I remove stuck lens on Nikon D40 DSLR?

The bayonet mount was previously broken. I had repaired it and replaced the part with a new bayonet mount. I went to mount the lens and it worked, however as I turned it another click noise was made about halfway between the alignment dot and the lens clicking in. Now, I can’t turn back past the new halfway click and the lens is stuck fast!

Send it to a Nikon Authorized Repair facility and plan on spending a lot of money. It might be cheaper to just upgrade to a D3000 or D5000 body.
