am i ready to get started coyote hunting?
i have a Remington R-15 VTR with a Nikon 3-9×40 BDC and a prone/sitting bipod a Benelli supernova 12ga. with 00 buckshot and a pimos e-predator call and a primos mouse squeeze and a knight&hale quick pred mouth call and total realtree camo.
am i read or do i need any thing else? if i do could you tell me what i need ? thanx
You don’t need cover scents, you simply can’t fool a coyote’s nose. .
I would suggest trying to find someone in your area that is a coyote caller and have them teach you the ropes. Calling is very fun, but can be frustrating. The best experience is to simply get out and call and learn as much as you can on your own, or have some one teach you.
I have been calling for 32 years, and every year I learn something new!
I don’t do any other hunting any more, just predator calling. You have a good gun set up, however, i would suggest you pattern your shotgun to see how it shoots with 00 buckshot. 4 Buck or lead BB’s will often pattern better that 00.
The biggest thing is to watch the wind. If you can, call with the wind in your face. Try to get the sun at your back or over your shoulder on your sets. Break up your outline by sitting against a hay bale, tree or fence post.
If you call with a cross wind, watch your down wind side, as the coyotes will usually circle downwind to catch your scent–You can fool their eyes and ears, but NEVER their nose!
Shoot me an email if you have any other questions!
Good Luck!
Tim
