Bead Benelli
I am buying my first shotgun and I want some advice as to what is the best buy and if I should consider…?
something else. I want the shotgun to be a long-lasting and dependable gun. I want to use it primarily for goose hunting, but I would like it to be flexible enough to allow me to hunt turkey, deer (with a slug), and shoot clay pigeons. I would really appreciate any advice from people that know more about this than myself.
Here are my options (all the guns are all-black, by the way):
Remington 870 Express 3 1/2″ Super Magnum 30″: Rem Choke-Full Only: $369.99CAN
Mossberg 535 ATS 3 1/2″ pump. 28″. Comes with Accu-set choke system (F, M, and IC) $279.99CAN
Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 3 1/2″, 28″ Accu-Mag choke tube $319.99CAN
Benelli Nova 3.5- 3 1/2″, 28″, includes 3 internal choke tubes and flourescent front bead. $499.99CAN
I realize the prices are much cheaper in the US, but it is too much hastle, paperwork, and duty to worry about that.
I appreciate the help!
oh, and all are 12 gauge.
For a first shotgun, you can’t go wrong with the Remington 870 Express with the 3-1/2″ chamber. It is well made, extremely reliable, will fire any 12 gauge round you can find (2-3/4″, 3″ and 3-1/2″) and has a mind boggling number of aftermarket parts and accessories available to customize it to your personal preference and needs.
I’ve been shooting shotguns for a very long time and have found the Remington 870 line of shotguns to be the best value for your money for the reasons mentioned above.
Any parts you see listed for the Remington 870 Wingmaster (the higher grade model) will also fit the Express without any problems, although, keep in mind that Wingmaster barrels are polish blued rather than matte finished as the Express ones are, they will still fit and function perfectly. You just have to remember to keep an eye on the chamber length of the extra barrels that you look at as the 3-1/2″ chambering isn’t as popular as the far more common 3″ chambers.
Good luck and happy hunting
