Do you think it’s hypocritical for people to complain about capitalism yet spend lots of money (inc. brands)?

I hear so many people complaining that capitalism makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, responsible for the economic downturn etc etc YET think it’s perfectly acceptable to go down designer/high street stores and spent hundreds of pounds monthly and purchase all the latest gadgets and electronics. They’re essentially supporting capitalism whenever you buy something from a private enterprise.

Doesn’t this annoy you?

Annoying? No. A true statement? Yes.

The criticism of capitalism is the unfair advantage that people with more money have over those that do not, however, we feed the machine. People that complain that capitalism is wrong, also utilize the same principles of capitalism to gain advantage over the value with what is produced over what they produce.

Why is it that a dirt poor kid will beg their parents for $100 shoes? Or that people will purchase concert tickets that they know is completely out of their range, but they do it anyway, because they “have” to go?

Some economists will tell you that these trade-offs are of marginal cost. In my view these examples are the exact criticism for marginality. I would argue that these decisions are made because people don’t always make decisions based upon economics. Duh, right? Most economic models, however, are based on the fact that people know what trade-off they are making. I argue that many decisions are decreasingly based upon economics due to the level of economy in which you demand.

For example, a poor person can not make a single mistake that will not affect their future ability to survive economically. A rich person is able to make more of the same mistakes a poor person can not because they have the money to cover the losses. However, a rich person can not make the same mistakes a super-rich person can make.
