How compact is a Compact SUV?

Many people like to head outdoors during the weekends and enjoy nature. They have to travel on dirt roads and unkempt country secondary roads, these are the roads SUVs were designed and built for. For too many of these people though, a regular size SUV is not the answer because they want their car to be fuel efficient and they also need it to be size efficient. This is why the compact SUV is making huge waves in the market and has come to stay.

For starters the large SUVs have powerful eight cylinder engines and although they are comfortable and spacious, when used in the city and in traffic they can create a dent in your fuel budget. They are hard to finding parking spots for and difficult to manoeuvre in tight corners. They are known for their off road capabilities and their towing power, in conclusion they are great to travel in, you get to tow your boat and bring all the luggage you want plus everybody is comfortable while riding down the highway.

A compact SUV is the middle of the road between a small car and a large SUV. It has many of the options and characteristics of the SUV with the costs of a small car. A compact SUV will carry four people and their luggage comfortably; it has the power to tow a medium size boat or a trailer with motorcycles on it. All compact SUVs are made with a four cylinder engine which is fast and strong enough to do the job but will not take the excess a regular SUV will take. It is possible to have a six cylinder engine put into it but then the purpose of economy will be defeated.

Their off road and towing capacities are limited by the fact that the heavy truck frame has been exchanged for a car chassis, also the frame and rear suspensions have been modified to allow for more room and a smoother ride. The point is that many things have been sacrificed to keep prices down and make not only the SUV compact but its price too. All the materials and accessories in these cars are the same which are used in an economy car. This does not mean that the car is bad, no, they are excellent but since they are a mixture of both worlds, there has to be parts of both worlds in them. By both worlds it is understood they are the small car and large SUV worlds.

The same thing goes for transmissions and other mechanical parts, they were taken out of sedans and adapted to the SUVs, and this kept costs down and at the same time allows people to drive comfortably and economically off road. This breed of new SUVs gives their owners, the ability to travel outside the city and be able to tow their toys behind them, it also permits them access to places a sedan will not go and third it provides them with a comfortable, economic and small car which serves purposes, city and country driving well.

Compact SUVs are a great solution for people who need flexibility in their cars, they need space, but not that much, they need power, but not that much either. People who enjoy a strong fast car but at the same time stay inside their fuel budgets are buying compact SUVs. These SUVs are taller than a sedan but lower than a large SUV, this allows for a greater view of the surroundings while not affecting the vehicles centre of gravity. A third seat is possible if you have to carry more people and their roof is designed for a rack for the luggage and extra cargo. The interior is comfortable and more than enough for an average size family to travel in for short or long distances. The combination of space, travel options and fuel economy make compact SUVs the ideal family car.
