CompM3 N-cell Aimpoint Sights

Aimpoint have won a great reputation for themselves over the last 35 years with their ever more refined range of red dot sights. Aimpoint only make red dot sights and a sure way to tell a fake is a supposed Aimpoint that comes equipped with a reticle of a different shape or color. Over a million Aimpoints of two generations have now been bought by the American Military. The reason for this is that Aimpoints are fast, accurate and very, very tough.  A water pressure test depth of 45 meters testifies to their ruggedness and hermetic sealing. The CompM3 comes with a rubber cover, available in Black or dark earth to further protect it, but this is really just to protect the finish as the sight itself is practically indestructible. The CompM3 is an upgrade of the Aimpoint CompM2 which had been adopted by the US Army as its M68 CCO. This sight has improved ‘ACET’ circuitry that can squeeze over 50,000 hours out of an N cell battery at setting 7 out of 10 or an insane 500,000 hours on the NV setting. The CompM3 is optimized for Gen 3 night vision, but is compatible with all generations. There are ten settings, 6 for day use and 4 for night vision compatible use. For sports shooters and hunters not needing a night vision compatible sight, Aimpoint offer the less expensive Aimpoint CompML3 red dot sight.

The CompM3 is a 30mm diameter tube sight and thus can take advantage of a plethora of 30mm mounts designed for this and other optics, many of them quick detachable. They can also be used in conjunction with the Aimpoint 3XMag 3X magnifier or its Eotech G23.FTS 3X magnifier equivalent to provide a longer range capability. 2 and 4 MOA models are available catering for shooter preference and anticipated engagement ranges.

At ranges beyond 50 meters the Comp M3 is completely parallax free, making it completely insensitive to shooting position or cheek weld. The brightest setting is very bright and the sight can be used in all light conditions. There are no lasers to harm your eyes or give away your position and the field of view is uninhibited. Aimpoint’s patented reflective coating is tuned to the exact frequency of red used for the dot, meaning that all other wavelengths pass through unimpeded. This rugged sight only weighs a mere 7.8 oz. (200 g.) – an important factor in a rifle carried for long distances. Unlimited eye relief means the sight can be mounted anywhere on your rail, enabling you to place other items on your rail with great flexibility.

This sight can be used for anything from CQB to deer hunting to action shooting or even duck hunting. It is hard to imagine a better sight for turkey hunting. These sights are extremely popular in Central and Northern Europe where shooting large game running is commonplace. They obviously lends themselves to action shooting disciplines and law enforcement use and the CompM3 has also seen some use with the US Military, which skipped a generation when they standardised the CompM4 as the next M68.
