Grains Reloading

How valuable is having a chronograph?
I am new to reloading and buying reloading supplies, and basically want to be able to shoot cheaper, consistently, and accurately. I would like to know if I am shooting some reloads that are at least as accurate and have the muzzle velocity of the same grain bullet as factory loads. Can you look up factory load data online and produce something similar going straight out of a reloading book? Would rather spend the money on other reloading supplies and if needed buy a chronograph later.
My loadbooks (I recommend having a couple, just to cross-check data) generally list muzzle velocity associated with a load.
A chronograph is useful when you’re working up a load, approaching maximum velocities, or loading for high precision. I don’t own one and rarely use one, but understand the usefulness, and will probably buy one in the future.
