Hunting Birding

how much would a trained bird hunting dog cost?
my dad might be considering buying a bird hunting dog from a trainer. and i was curious how much it might cost. if breed matters, he was thinking either a German shorthaired pointer or a weimaraner
A trained one, that you should SEE hunt (first) that points, backs retrieves-to-hand & in the case of the versatile gun dog (Weimaraner) can track wounded game, would sell upwards of $2,000.00-5,000.00. Not many people, are going to turn loose of a good hunting dog.
It is far more affordable to buy from proven, titled dogs, who are being bred for puppies & have the breeder or a knowledgeable hunting person pick one out, for you to train. Practically anybody can put a Junior Hunter title, NRD (Novice Retrieving dog) or NSD (Novice Shooting dog) on a Weim. We see many first-time owners do so. It helps to have an active local Weim or GSP club. They will help you get started. There are 36 local Weim clubs, nation-wide. They or the national breeder referral person can refer you to outstanding breeders of field dogs.
