Laser Rangefinder

Laser Rangefinder
How do you use a rangefinder?

i was looking at the Bushnell medalist rangefinder and it says that it has “pin seeking technology.” that got me wondering, (ive never used a range finder before) what do you aim at to find the distance to the hole?

say your 150 yards out. do u shoot the laser at the hole itself (or the ground right next to the hole), at the actual “stick/pin” the goes in the hole, or at the flag? id imagine the pin seeking technology would mean youd shoot at the pin itself, but the pin is awfully thin. can the rangefinder really pick up the pin thats only an inch thick?

A laser range finder works by shooting a laser beam at an object, and measuring the amount of time it takes to return to the range finder. Knowing the amount of time, it can calculate distance.

So when aiming at the green, you aim the crosshairs at the flag, not the stick.

Bushnell now has their “pin seeker” technology which helps in picking up a flag (or other small object) from long distances. The way it works is that it takes several readings of the objects close to the cross hairs, and it assumes the closest one is the pin. This helps in eliminating false readings of objects behind the pin.

Remember that you can pick up distances to ANY object, not just the flag. I’ve used one since they became legal. Remember that if you play in tournies that you can only use a range finder that has distance measuring only, and not slope, or wind, or any of the other stuff they have now.
