Leupold Scope Rings For Sniper Rifle
Leupold are the premier US scope and accessory manufacturer. Leupold also make some of the best scope mounting systems in the business, relied upon by the US Military and law enforcement organizations. Their mounts allow you the option of semi permanent mounting or the use of a rugged and well-engineered quick detach system.
The Leupold PRW rings are their standard duty military specification rings intended for non-quick attachment of typical hunting and DMR scopes. The ring clamps down with four 8-40 Torx screws which are positioned well beyond the semi-circle. This prevents the scope from rotating as you tighten the clamping screws. The scope clamps to the rail with larger Torx screws and a sturdy cross-bar stops the mount moving forward or backward under recoil. The clamping rings grasp the scope and prevent it sliding back under recoil if torqued to the correct setting. The PRW rings are only available in steel and are precisely machined from a steel billet for precise alignment and given a matte black powder coating. A gloss black finish is also available on the 1″ medium height version.
The Leupold QRW rings are the quick detach versions of the PRWs. Instead of Torx screws, the QRW utilizes levers. This allows the scope to be removed and replaced whilst retaining almost perfect zero. The scope, once detached, is more easily protected and is off the rifle when cleaning chemicals are employed. The Leupold QRW levers can be adjusted so that those on both mounts are at the same angle when the scope is attached to the rifle.
Military sniping relies on large powerful scopes on powerful rifles of up to fifty caliber. The mission often only calls for one shot to be taken so it is vital that that shot counts. The Leupold Mark 4 rings were specified without compromise to meet these requirements. The rings are massively built, CNC machined from 11L17 steel and secured with four heavy-duty Torx screws using the wrench supplied. Large, easily torqued hex nuts are used to clamp the ring to the rail. With the current emphasis on weight reduction due to dismounted operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere, Leupold came up with an aluminum version of the Mark 4 rings. 7075 T-651 aluminum is twice as strong as 6000 series and means that little strength has been sacrificed for lighter weight.
