Trouble with Leupold STD bases/rings?

I just purchased the STD 1-piece base, and I bought the STD medium rings to go with it. When I place the forward ring with the dovetail into the base, it doesn’t rotate to the correct position? Why is that? Thanks.

These are designed to be put together with what is known as an interference fit. The ring will need to be rotated in the base to create the final fit. The method that is most commonly used is to assemble the top and bottom halves of the ring, put the ring into the base mounted on the rifle, and use a wood dowel to rotate the ring several times. It will be very tight at first, and then will loosen up to a snug fit. Once it turns you can install the scope in the rings, and complete the mounting job.
