Leupold Wind
Remington 700 SPS “tactical” (20 inch barrel) .308 Winchester?
Is this 20 inch barreled rifle capable of getting 5 inch groups at 500 yards using 168 grain, Sierra Matchking BTHP (Federal) .308 Winchester ammunition, and a Leupold 8.5-25x50mm scope? Do not regard wind, humitidy, all that stuff. I am just asking if this rifle is capable of this task, regardless of conditions. Thanks for your time!
What range would you reccomend I stop going for 5 inch groups?
Mr. 357…100 yards? I could do that iron sighted! Let alone a high powered scope like the one I’ve mentioned!
I would think that kind of rifle capable do better then that at 800 yards
. And even over 1000 yards too.
With Remington 700 in .308 or in .338 I would blame any imperfection on shooter… ![]()
I am not sure on the range for 5 inch group. I just know that this rifle can do better then that at 500 yards and farther.
Generally speaking bullet will go for several miles but I would not go shooting animal or target farther then 1000 yards. To hard to take all different variables in account. But that just me. I am sure there are some professionals who can make 5 inch group in a mile or more. Especially with legendary .338. I would not put my best bet on .308 to far away.
