2010 NFL Predictions: AFC Odds to Win Favor Colts

The defending AFC champion Indianapolis Colts have opened as 4-1 NFL betting favorites at online sportsbooks to repeat as conference champions in odds to win the 2010 AFC. The upstart New York Jets and the perennial underachieving San Diego Chargers are the next choices at 6-1 and 5-1 respectively. The New England Patriots are another popular favorite in NFL betting odds listed at 6-1 while the Baltimore Ravens are 7-1. Pittsburgh rounded out the top choices as 9-1 betting favorites while moderate choice are Houston at 16-1, Tennessee at 14-1, Cincinnati at 14-1 and Miami at 16-1.

The longshot class in 2010 AFC odds to win starts with Denver at 25-1, Jacksonville at 30-1, Cleveland at 50-1, Oakland at 50-1 and rounded out by Buffalo and Kansas City at 60-1 in NFL betting odds. The Colts are long in the tooth and picked each year to finally exit from the championship stage only to confound their critics each year. But Indianapolis barely got by the New York Jets in the AFC title game and was outclassed by the Saints in the Super Bowl. The Jets were the story of 2009 but will lack the element of surprise for 2010 and must get far better play from the quarterback position to be taken seriously. They appear to be potentially over-valued.

San Diego finds a way to botch the playoffs each year under Norv Turner and is lucky to be playing in the weak AFC West but are still an NFL betting favorite at 5-1 in 2010 AFC odds to win. The Patriots are a team that could move up if they can only stay healthy as injuries have been a problem since their epic failure to complete an undefeated 2007 season. Baltimore took a step back last year but has the defense and coaching to be a serious threat to go all the way. Pittsburgh is another team that took a step back but could bring value if Ben Roethlisberger can stay out of trouble. There is plenty of defense and talent in the Steel City.
