Benefits of Plastic lined pumps

Over the years, Sealless pumps have witnessed a striking growth to ensure advanced improvements in the operational safety and consistent performance. Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries are increasingly gaining benefits by using plastic lined pumps for pumping highly toxic and corrosive media.

Whether it is centrifugal pumps or self–priming pumps, typically a chemical pump for corrosive liquids is subject to strict standards when it comes to safety, leaks to the atmosphere and service life. These high requirements are the reasons for the trend towards sealless in particularly, magnetic drive pumps.

Plastic lined pumps are progressively gaining popularity in applications that present demanding conditions where leakage to the environment is absolutely not acceptable. Numerous factors play crucial role in final selection of lining material to maintain consistent performance and durability. Several factors like degree of corrosion resistance, temperature capability, resistance to permeation and abrasion resistance are considered while selection of lining material. Variety of lining materials are available that can cater to specific requirements and applications. Amongst all the lining material, PFA/PTFE is considered as the preferred choice when corrosion resistance and temperature capability are top priorities.

Along with initial cost and installation of the unit, the mag drive pumps reduce the expenses by lowering costs in maintenance, cleanup and downtime.

Magnetic Drive Pumps are sealless pumps that use a coaxial magnetic coupling to transmit torque to an impeller. A standard electric motor drives a set of permanent magnets that are mounted on a carrier or drive assembly. In turn, the magnets drive the inner rotor and provide the no-slip or synchronous capability of the torque coupling

The plastic lined mag drive pumps consist of a pressure containing metal outer shell which is generally ductile iron is covered internally by a 1/8 to 3/16 inch plastic coating of internal wetted parts and it provides corrosion resistance. This outer shell also gives structural rigidity to uphold the pump internal pressure and loads of external nozzle.
Every single wetted component is either covered by a fiber reinforced solid plastic liner or made of engineered ceramics, like silicon carbide for the product lubricated bearings.
