scope for my M4A3 ar15 with 16 inch barrel.?

Would the Leupold mark 2 6-18x40mm in mildot reticle be a good choice? I need a good all purpose tactical scope and I don’t have alot of money to spend.

Your amplification is too high the 6 is 6x your vision and your variable 18 gives you very little field of vision the 40mm will cover your steel sights so you will need tall scope rings. All in all a nice scope but not for that plate form. The first number on the scope should be low like a 3 or 2 the next number should also be low like a 9 or 10 the last number should be small as that is the size of the end of the scope to keep it out of the way a 30mm to 33mm should work well.
