gifts for my military boyfriend?

i need some suggestions about what to get my boyfriend.
He goes to a military/navy (something) academy.
He is very UNmaterialist. he carrys around everything he needs in a back pack (knife. flashlight, lighter. gloves. extra cloths. only useful s**t.)
im not 100% sure what to get him that he would truely appreciate and carry around.
a lock pick? any suggestions
