I plan to get a++ certification but are there more jobs in information systems or is A++ certification good?

I am pretty much asking which field would be best for getting a job? Could I get a decent job faster with A++ certification or could I get a better job with more pay maybe a month or so down the road after getting an associate’s in information systems and web design? Thanks for any input you can provide.

The CompTIA A+ certification is an entry level certification and a great place to start if you’re interested in IT, but it’s going to take a bit of work.

To gain this cert, you’ll need to pass 2 exams. The first is the Essentials (220-601) exam. This one is required. You’ll also have to pass one of three elective exams, the IT Technician (220-602), the Remote Support Technician (220-603), or the Depot Technician (220-604). These last three are somewhat career oriented exams.

For your studies, you’ll want to pick up some sort of text book. The one I most often is Mike Meyers’ All-In-One 6th Edition. It’s the most complete text available that I’ve found so far and widely available on Amazon or eBay. There are other text books available though. What you might do is go down to the local book store and look through some of them. Some people will find that one reads better for them than others.

You might also take a look at Professor Messer’s Free A+ Certification Training Course. I’ve left a link to this as well. The Professor has put together a collection of videos that focus on the A+ Certification exam. These are quality videos, at last count there are 70 available, they’re free to watch, no purchase or registration is required.

Another great source of information for the A+ or just about any certification for that matter, is the ProProfs web site. There are several study guides available as well as a collection of additional resources and practice material. Most of the resources there are also free although registration is required to access certain features. More of a formality than anything else. Again, a link is included below.

And finally, stay away from any sources that provide brain dumps. Braindumps are a collection of actual certification exam questions and answers. The practice of creating braindump material violates the sponsor’s non-disclosure agreement, it is illegal, and the use of this material is considered unethical throughout the IT industry. The reproduction and sale of copyrighted material also violates the certification non-disclosure agreement as as well as federal copyright law.

Any certification candidate using material of this nature in preparation of an exam is unknowingly risking revocation of any certification they may currently hold as well as being disqualified from attaining any future certification.

The validity of any of the resources that you choose to use can be verified through the database at CertGuard. CertGuard is a “watchdog” society devoted to the integrity of the certification process in the IT community. This is also a free resource and easy to use. Just type in the url or website that you’re considering and the results of your search will be returned in just a few seconds. A link to this is also included.
