How to mount a scope on a Springfield M1A?

I recently bought an NcStar Scope mount for my M1A, and wanted to install it, however, it appears to slide into the rear of the receiver where the “clip guide” piece is inserted. The clip guide is held in place by the “clip guide pin”, but I can’t figure out how to remove the pin. The hole is way too small for any screwdriver. Does anyone have an M1A, or know how to remove the clip guide?

My M-14 and my BIL’s M1A had a threaded hole on the left side of the receiver to which a mount was screwed.

Here’s a picture of what mine looked like. I got it via Midway sales, I think, or at the gun show. I don’t understand why anyone would go with any other scope mount for the -14/A1
