What is the significance of the girl in the red coat in Schindler’s List?

This isn’t for homework or anything I’ve just always wondered why she’s in colour, her coat at least.

Elie Wiesel’s little sister had a red coat on the last time he saw her before she died in Auschwitz. Spielberg added it in as a tribute to her and other victims of the Holocaust.
