Latest Research On Joint Pain Relief

Researchers at Henry Ford Hospital conducted a study that suggests electromagnetic pulses provide pain relief for those whose joints are afflicted with osteoarthritis. The electromagnetic device is a development from Ivivi Health Sciences of Montvale, New Jersey.

Dr. Fred Nelson, director of Henry Ford Hospital’s Osteoarthritis Center as well as associate program director for research, explained that in lab studies, electromagnetic signals decrease calcium in cartilage cells. A decrease in calcium results to a reduction in swelling. Dr. Nelson further explains that this procedure has no side effects, offers immediate results, and is cost-effective in the long run.

The said study was funded by the Ivivi Health Sciences, who made the same device.

To examine the consistency of the joint pain relief and whether electromagnetic impulses ease other joint pains, the researchers intend to conduct more trials. More trials are needed on the effectiveness of low-intensity pulsating electromagnetic therapy. There is much debate on its effectiveness. As of now, researchers are planning on joint pain relief studies that are much larger in scope.
