Rifle Barrel

Rifle Barrel
Is there another way, besides buffing to remove pitts and scratches from a rifle barrel?

I have been tasked with finding out if 100%buffing is the only way to remove pitts and scratches from a barrel, and whether or not there would be any concerns in using another method.

Depending on the depth and severity of the pitting, you may find that buffing and polishing are the only options you have. There are a couple of tricks that a good gunsmith can do, but to get anything more than a dimple or a 3/8 in long scratch to look good you would want it done right. You would be surprised at what I’ve seen done to barrels to cover up scratches and dings, marksalot permanent markers, spray paint, JB weld, bondo, I even had one guy bring in a barrel he tried to fill in a gash with by welding it and sanding it down. Check with a good smith and get a couple of different opinions and prices before you have any work done. You may try to do it yourself, but barrels are cheap to practice on. Good luck.
