How many US Marine riflemen are given M16A2′s and how many are given A4′s?
The only real difference between the M16A2 and the M16A4 is that the A4 has a detachable carry-handle so that scopes and optics can be placed in the top rail. So what are the chances that I would have an A2 instead of an A4, and what difference would it make taking into consideration my ability to mount optics or have a smaller, less cumbersome rifle?
Also, compared to the M4A1 carbine that the Army is so fond of (I know that the USMC doesn’t really use it because of the M16′s better accuracy), how much more difficult is it for Marines to maneuver inside and out with a larger and longer rifle?
The M16′s really aren’t that much more accurate than the M4A1 and the Marine Corps is phasing the M16A4 out for the M4. The M16A2 is almost COMPLETELY phased out of the Corps, except for in some training battalions.
