BSA Rifle Scope
Founded and based in England, BSA is the oldest gun maker and arms producer in Great Britain. There are different explanations as to what the BSA acronym means, but the general belief is that it represents the Birmingham Small Arms Company. BSA manufacturers a number of products including vehicles, arms, and military equipment. At it’s peak, BSA was the single largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world.
Since 1996, BSA has been expanding it’s product offering in their line of rifle scopes. They have engineered scopes that are targeted towards the more cost minded, as well as some that are specifically produced for specialized applications like bad weather and shooting at dusk or early morning under poor or limited lighting. Currently, BSA has rifle scope models for the following specific needs:
* Air rifles
* Rimfires
* Centerfire
* Tactical
* BDC models (Sweet series)
While BSA is somewhat better recognized as “budget brand”, they have made significant improvements in both quality and product offerings in the last 3-5 years. They are best recognized for their BDC (Bullet Drop Compensation) models, which offer built-in bullet drop compensation with specific rifle calibers and bullet weights. These models are somewhat unique to the industry as they allow the hunter to pick a range and the scope automatically compensates for the bullet drop.
Will BSA be the best option for every hunter or shooter? No, it won’t. But, for the cost minded individuals who want fairly good performance for under $150 then the BSA is certainly a possibility. One of my favorite squirrel rifles is topped with a BSA and I wouldn’t trade that rifle/scope combo for anything in the world.
