Scope Obj
an object-oriented Javascript question?
I have tried to create javascript objects of the form:
function obj()
{
this.variableX = something;
document.addEventListener(‘mousedown’,this.modifyTheVariable,false); //Event listener
}
obj.prototype =
{
modifyTheVariable : function()
{
//DO SOMETHING WITH this.variableX;
}
};
When the code executes, the object does get initialised properly and everything works, but the variable ‘this.variableX’ somehow goes out of scope when this.modifyTheVariable() is called. Please Help!!
Since I can’t see the entire context, I can’t be certain what you’re doing wrong. Here’s a sample that works correctly. Ask more questions, if this doesn’t clear it up for you.
