can you take scope mounts off of a shotgun?

I want to put a red dot sight on my shotgun for turkey season but i want to take it off for ducks can i do that?

sure, just have the reciever drilled and tapped or get a cantilever mount if possible. Just take the scope off and rezero it next season. the mounts can generally stay. A big rail is going to get in the way though.
