Components For A .308 AR Home-build

The DPMS LR308 upper is available in two basic formats. You can have the usual ejection port cover, case deflector and forward assist or a very streamlined receiver that lacks all these features. There is plenty of metal in the receiver where needed to support the barrel and create a stable platform that won’t crack or distort after thousands of rounds of use. The uppers are available with high or low Picatinny rails, light and heavy barrel contours and lengths of 16, 18 and 24 inches. You can have an aluminium gas block with a rail to take a forsight or stick with the traditional A2 front sight tower. Complete uppers have a teflon anti abrasion coating in addition to hard anodizing.

The DPMS LR308 lower is available stripped or ready to go with a pistol grip, fire control components and a choice of A2 type Zytel fixed or six position collapsible stocks. As with the upper, the lower is milled out of a solid billet of 7075 T-6 aluminum. Even the triggerguard is an integral machining for additional strength. There is enough clearance to enable the use of winter gloves. Again, metal is cleverly distributed to ensure stability and long life. A beveled magwell aids rapid mag changes under stress. This is a ‘small pin receiver with .154″ trigger and hammer pins and a .275″ pivot pin.

Nothing adds to the accuracy of a rifle as much as a great trigger. Geissele have built a great reputation supplying AR triggers with specific characteristics required by users with their own applications. The Geissele trigger High Speed model can be adjusted for first and second pull weight and overtravel and breaks like an icicle. Geissele offer large and small pin versions of all three variants. The Service model is intended for NRA Service Rifle and CMP competitions and has most of its pull weight on the first pull. Its first pull is adjustable from  3.2 to 5 lb.; second stage, ½ to 1½ lb. The Match model has light first and second pulls for situations where absolute accuracy is the overwhelming requirement. Its first pull is adjustable from 1.3 to 3 lbs.; second stage, 4 oz. to 14 oz. The DMR combines the light first stage with the heavy second to provide a trigger capable of accurate fire that is safe to use in high-stress, dynamic situations. A good DM can put down 30 rounds in as little as 4½ seconds with this unit. The First stage is  1.3 to 3 lbs.; second stage, ½ to 1½ lbs. Small pin versions come with an oversized spare hammer pin to aid fitting in rifles with oversized pin holes. As well as instructions, each trigger comes with wrenches, oil and grease.
