Two Cavity

Does the dentist always use two drills to drill a cavity?
Every time I get a cavity filled, the dentist uses this drill that whines like crazy, and then a second one which shakes a lot
That depends on the preferences of the dentist, and what type of cavity we’re dealing with. For small, simple ones, i tend to only use the high speed handpiece that has water. For the larger ones, that may go deep to the pulp, i use the slow speed (aka whines like crazy) to help remove decay. The reason for this is because the slow speed doesn’t take away tooth structure quickly; it only takes away decay and soft infected tissue. If we went in with the high speed, we may be removing more tooth structure than needed in such an infected area.
